Environmentalism has long been talked about in terms of the effects our actions will have on our children and our children’s children. So perhaps the most caring gift you could ever get your kids is an environmentally friendly one.

Kids Toys

The most cost effective and least environmentally damaging toys you can get are free toys. It might sound too good to be true but in reality, most kids will have toys and all kids will outgrow them. Because of that you will find no shortage of free or incredibly cheap toys on the market.

There is also a service called “Toy Box Club” that sends your kid toys to play with every month for £35, which are replaced with new toys the following month so that everyone gets to share these fantastic toys.

Under £100

For £70 you can feed 10 hungry, less fortunate children, when you buy a soft toy from Cuddle+Kind (not pictured, actual soft toys are at least twice as cute). These are gorgeous dolls that your kids will cherish for their whole lives, but also have a great message behind them, especially when many other dolls will have been made in sweatshops. These are handmade in Peru using sustainable, fair trade practices.

Kids Toys

If your budding eco warrior is a bit of a thrill seeker, look no further than this electric drift trike with a build in Bluetooth speaker and removable flagpole, made out of sustainably sourced materials, which is only £199 (at time of writing). Getting an electric ride on is so much more environmentally friendly than a fuelled alternative. If you have solar panels, you can even run the vehicle for free. This is yet another reason to get solar panels and move towards living off the grid, or having the grid pay you.

If Money Is No Object

Kids Toys

Spoil your tree hugging tots with a top of the range treehouse. This one from Wickey is made from recycled materials and has over 1000 climbing challenges. However you could with enough time, effort and knowhow, make your own treehouse (pictured). The cost comes from knowing you can trust the design to stay upright whilst your kids run riot on it.

Conclusion

However much or little you want to spend on your kids, there’s no excuse to buy non-sustainable toys. Take a little extra time to get something that will last longer, bring happiness to others or just the pure fun of the drift trike. Whatever you choose you will be incredibly proud of yourself as well as them. Teaching kids about the environment and sustainability at a young age is going to give them a running start for their future. The way things are going at the moment, the future is definitely green. All you need to do is take a little more time when buying toys, and before you know it your kid will be outsmarting Greta Thunberg and leading the next generation of green initiatives such as Tesla cars or The Ocean Cleanup.
